Dana White to meet with Holly Holm this week

DALLAS — Any fight fans still waiting for the eventual “huge announcement” that UFC color commentator Joe Rogan promised regarding the next opponent for women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey might want to prepare themselves for disappointment.

“There’s nothing there,” UFC President Dana White told reporters on Thursday.

“Joe Rogan said something on a radio station and it blew up from there. That’s it. I talked to Rogan and he apologized, and there’s nothing there.”

Rogan let the rumor slip in early March on KROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show, and ever since, speculation has run rampant from curious fight fans believing the only possible opponents who could met Rogan’s criteria would be former Strikeforce headliner turned actor Gina Carano, or current Invicta FC champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino.

Both women competed at featherweight throughout their careers, and to that effect, White squashed any notion of Rousey ever fighting in a catchweight, despite however large of a marquee name her opponent may provide.

Although White did mention the name of one compelling prospect: former world champion boxer and current undefeated MMA bantamweight Holly Holm.

“I’m meeting with her this week,” White revealed.

Holm (6-0) has scored five vicious stoppages over her six professional wins, and is currently scheduled to fight Juliana Werner at Legacy FC 30 on April 4.

White said the meeting this week in Dallas will be the first between he, Holm and her management team. And while he wouldn’t speculate on the specifics on the conversation, White added, “I’m going to meet them this weekend and see what happens.”
