Jose Also hasn’t lost in nine years, and that’s why Junior dos Santos puts him at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings.
Even though Aldo thinks that pound-for-pound ranking “is f–king useless”, his fellow Brazilian and former heavyweight champion sees him as the No. 1 in the world today.
“There are a lot of great fighters right now. It’s complicated, but I’ll choose Jose Aldo,” dos Santos said in chat with the fans on Tuesday. “It’s not because I’m at Nova Uniao now. I’d have answered this question the same way before.”
Light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones currently tops Aldo in UFC’s official rankings, but “Cigano” doesn’t think it’s fair.
“It’s impressive what Aldo has done in his division,” dos Santos said. “I know that a lot of people are talking about Jon Jones, and he really is a phenom, he’s really good, but Aldo is at the top and defending his title for a lot longer. Jose Aldo is the man right now.”
Aldo (24-1) is currently waiting for his next opponent in the UFC, and Jones (19-1) prepares to put the 205-pound title on the line for the seventh time against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172.
