Leandro Ataides wants quick KO over Tatsuya Mizuno at One FC 15

Unbeaten in MMA, Leandro Ataides wants to make a statement at One FC 15.

Scheduled to face MMA veteran Tatsuya Mizuno on Friday’s One FC card in Manila, Philippines, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert wants a finish, but not with his abilities on the ground.

“Winning by knockout is always good,” Ataides told MMAFighting.com. “I want a quick and good win. I worked a lot on my muay thai, so you can expect great things in this fight.”

Mizuno competed against some of the best in multiple weight classes, including Melvin Manhoef, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Gegard Mousasi, Sergei Kharitonov and Thiago Silva, and recently dropped down to 185 pounds with a win over Rafael Silva.

Ataides, who is 6-0 in MMA with five stoppage victories, including a first-round knockout win over Bryan Rafiq in his One FC, wants to add another TKO to his record.

“My camp was great, I trained five times a day for this fight,” he said. “Mizuno is a warrior and I don’t know what he has done in his camp for this fight, but I believe in what I’m doing.”

If Ataides moves to 7-0 with a win over Mizuno, he hopes to earn a shot at the middleweight championship in the future.

“I want to win the One FC title, but I’m only focused on this fight now,” he said. “It’s going to be the fight of the night. It’s going to be an exciting brawl.”

A former member of Nova Uniao, where he used to train with UFC champions Jose Aldo and Renan Barao, Ataides moved to Singapore to represent Evolve MMA in MMA and work as a jiu-jitsu teacher.

“I was helping a friend in Jakarta but I was in the end of my contract, so he got in touch with Chatri Sityodtong from Evolve and set up an interview with them,” Ataides said. “They liked me and I’m part of the family now.

“I’m teaching jiu-jitsu here and being part of the development of the Asian MMA through an outstanding gym. We always do our best here, and we do it from the heart.”

Singapore has yet to build a name for itself in MMA with top fighters, but Ataides is confident that, with the support of high-level coaches at Evolve MMA, they will eventually get there.

“We have a lot of great talents here, and you will all know them soon,” he said. “They are going to be great champions. If we work with our hearts, we can make the impossible possible.”
