SAO PAULO, Brazil — Stipe Miocic needed 35 seconds to finish Fabio Maldonado at The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 Finale card, and he won’t ask for a fight against former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, his original opponent.
Maldonado replaced dos Santos with less than a month’s notice at Saturday’s card, and Miocic didn’t ask for “Cigano” next at the post-fight press conference.
“If it happens, it happens,” Miocic said. “I’m just happy with the ‘W’ I got tonight. I just want to get back home to hang out with my family.”
Now riding a three-fight win streak in the UFC, Miocic would be down to fight again in Brazil.
“I got here and people were awesome, so nice to me,” he said. “They were so nice and getting the win was even better. I’d love to come back here and fight again.”
Miocic scored the second-fastest win of his MMA career against Maldonado, and he only has good things to say about the light heavyweight, who agreed to step up on short notice.
“He’s a game fighter,” he said. “I just wanted to make sure I caught him the second time. He’s a tough guy and fought at heavyweight before, like he said. I caught him with a good punch.”
