The UFC announced new match-ups for future fight shows, and the Fight Night card in Tulsa, Okla., has three new bouts.
Thiago Alves, a former welterweight title challenger, is set to take on Jordan Mein at UFC Fight Night 49 card on Aug. 23. “Pitbull” (20-9) returned to the Octagon in April after battling injuries for two years, scoring an unanimous decision victory over Seth Baczynski. Mein (28-9) scored a split decision victory over Hernani Perpetuo in his last UFC appearance.
The UFC Fight Night 49 card will also feature Wilson Reis’ flyweight debut. Coming off a close decision loss to top-ranked bantamweight Iuri Alcantara, Reis (17-5) cuts down to 125 pounds and meets Tim Elliott (10-5-1), who looks to get back on track after losses to Ali Bagautinov and Joseph Benavidez.
The latest addition to the card is a featherweight bout between Tom Niinimaki and Chas Skelly. Both fighters will try to return to the win column after seeing their long win streaks snap in their last UFC fights. After 12 straight victories, Niinimaki (21-6-1) recently suffered a first-round submission loss to Niklas Backstrom, while Skelly (11-1) suffered his first career loss against Mirsad Bektic.
UFC’s return to FOX on July 26 also has a new bout, with a pairing between Brian Ortega and Mike De La Torre. Unbeaten in eight professional fights, Ortega (8-0) makes his Octagon debut six months after winning the vacant RFA featherweight title against Keoni Koch. De La Torre looks for his first UFC win after taking on Mark Bocek on a week’s notice in April.
UFC Fight Night 47’s new match-ups features four fighters looking for redemption inside the Octagon on Aug. 12 in Bangor, Maine. In the heavyweight division, Shawn Jordan (15-6), who desperately looks for a win after back-to-back knockout losses to Gabriel Gonzaga and Matt Mitrione, battles Jack May (7-1), who suffered his first professional loss in his UFC debut. At 185 pounds, Tim Boetsch (17-7) faces Brad Tavares (12-2).
