BattleGrounds MMA one-night, eight-man tourney pushed back to October 3, will air on PPV

BattleGrounds MMA’s upcoming one-night, eight-man welterweight tournament, which was initially slated for June 27, has been postponed to October 3 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK, where it will air live on pay-per-view, promotion officials announced on Tuesday.

“This is a tremendous step forward for our two year old company that will allow us to bring BattleGrounds MMA’s world-class competitive platform to a live, national audience for the first time,” BattleGrounds president Kenny Monday said in a statement.

“We truly appreciate all the support and enthusiasm that the fans and our fighters have shown us. On October 3, we are going to show our gratitude by giving MMA fans throughout the U.S. the opportunity to take in all the action live from their homes.”

According to promotion officials, because of the late switch, all tickets already purchased for June 27 “will be honored” by the BOK Center on October 3.

The tournament’s eight-man bracket is populated by a swarm of former UFC fighters, including Dennis Hallman (53-14-2, 1 NC), Cody McKenzie (15-4), Brock Larson (37-8), Luigi Fioravanti (24-11), David Mitchell (14-4) and Roan Carneiro (16-9), as well as Bellator veteran Trey Houston (11-2) and undefeated NCAA standout Chris Honeycutt (4-0). The grand prize for the man who emerges from the field is $50,000.

Also included on the card is a tournament reserve bout between Marcus Sanchez (4-0) and Jordan Smith (18-6), along with two non-tournament bouts, Ryan Couture (7-3) vs. Jonny Carson (11-6) and Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc (8-7) vs. Jen Aniano (0-2).
