Morning Report: Nate and Nick Diaz continue money crusade against UFC

Money remains the major hangup for the boys from Stockton, CA.

After UFC lightweight Myles Jury took to Twitter Sunday in an attempt to lure Nate Diaz back into action, the younger Diaz brother again responded only with gripes about his current contract with the promotion.

.@NateDiaz209 I respect u a lot, BUT… I confirmed to fight you & have been waiting on you for a week. Are we getting after it or what?

— Myles Jury (@FuryJury) June 29, 2014

Bout my money #breakbread till then don’t call ..

— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) June 29, 2014

With the UFC showing their approval of Jury in the form of a re-tweet from their official Twitter account, semi-retired welterweight contender Nick Diaz made a seemingly innocuous post that let his hashtags do the talking.

#$$ #Makeadeal #ufc #nickdiaz #bloodmoney #1love #ht #hateLV

Stating in April that he was the ‘biggest draw in the lightweight division,’ Nate Diaz asked for his release from the UFC, unhappy with his current contract ($60K to show, $60K to win). “If I can get released, I can go fight somewhere and make some money,” said Diaz. “If they can renegotiate, I can make some money, because right now I’m broke.”

Nick Diaz hasn’t stepped inside the Octagon since his unsuccessful title challenge to then welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158 in March of 2013. While there seems to be mutual interest in a possible fight between Diaz and former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, UFC president Dana White insists the bout likely wouldn’t take place until 2015.

The Dragon. Lyoto Machida isn’t letting Chris Wiedman’s back-to-back wins over Anderson Silva mess with his head. ‘There was a lot of controversy, I’m not taking anything away from Chris, but the controversy on how he won the second fight, he got hurt.’

Didn’t want it. Ronda Rousey says Sara McMann and other female fighters don’t want to live the lifestyle of a champion. ‘I don’t think [McMann] really wanted what came along with being the UFC champion. She did, really, zero media for the whole thing.’

Guess where? Vitor Belfort says he wants to challenge Chris Weidman at Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Pat to the HOF. According to the UFC Fan Expo’s schedule, Pat Miletich will be the UFC Hall of Fame’s newest member.

FANPOST OF THE DAY

Today’s Fanpost of the Day comes via tigerlee.

Weekly Regional Roundup: June 20-26

A look at the regional scene of MMA highlighting the bouts of well-known veterans and rising prospects fighting in promotions not named UFC, Bellator, or WSOF.

While the past week was an unusually slow one for any fighters of note, it did feature a more than usual amount of upset bouts, as well as changing of the guard fights that signal the waning days of yesterday’s heroes.

Hantaru starched former Bellator & DREAM vet Carvalho in just 44 seconds at Shooto Brazil 48 for a huge upset in his first MMA win. Sort of controversial, check the video and see what you think. Bellator vet Foster edged former TUF guy Main in a not very close split (another judging pratfall with one scoring it 30-27 Main) at CFFC 36. MMA late-comer Mima put on a show against another former Bellator vet in Ledesma, at the same CFFC 36 show. But it was DEEP 67 that featured some torch passing as Motoya surprisingly subbed Maeda (who is now on a 5 fight winless streak, even after dropping to 125), and Ochi pounded leglock master Imanari after closing the latter’s eye with some nasty ground strikes that led to the doctor stoppage. One bright spot was Nakamura winning his bout over old-timer Yamamiya, a guy who debuted in this game back in 1996…a true millennial warrior. I’d love to see K-Taro in one of the bigger orgs again.
