Thiago Silva has an opponent for his first fight after his arrest.
Fight Time Promotions owner Howard Davis Jr. informed MMAFighting.com on Tuesday that UFC veteran Thiago Silva will headline the Fight Time 20 card against Bellator veteran Mike Hayes.
Fight Time 20 takes place at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Aug. 29.
Silva (16-3, 2 no-contest) will compete for the first time since being released from the UFC after being arrested on Feb. 6 following an alleged incident involving his ex-wife Thaysa Kamiji at Pablo Popovitch’s school in Fort Lauderdale and a subsequent standoff with police at his home. In his last UFC appearances, Silva defeated Matt Hamill and Rafael Cavalcante.
Hayes (19-9-1), a former Strikeforce and Bellator competitor, enters the bout coming off a loss to Virgil Zwicker. A month earlier, Hayes scored a third-round knockout victory over long-time heavyweight veteran Jeff Monson.
In the co-main event, UFC veteran Mike Rio takes on Frank Carrillo for the lightweight championship. A battle between Randy Barosso and Jason Soares will crown the new featherweight champion, and another former UFC heavyweight will compete on the card.
Jeff Monson returns to competition against Matt Kovacs in the heavyweight division, Davis Jr. confirmed to MMAFighting.com.
Monson (49-19-1), who competed under the UFC, PRIDE and Strikeforce banners, has lost six straight over the past 12 months. He was on a seven-fight unbeaten streak prior to his current skid. Kovacs (9-11) won three of his last four bouts.
Fight Time will hold a press conference at the War Memorial Auditorium on July 9.
