Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva won’t get what he was hoping for.
“Bigfoot” was campaigning for a heavyweight clash with Josh Barnett, but he will instead face another former UFC champion in Andrei Arlovski in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card in Brasilia, Brazil, on Sept. 13. MMAFighting.com confirmed the match-up with sources close to the situation following a report from Combate.
Silva and Arlovski fought for the first time in 2010 under the Strikeforce banner, and “Bigfoot” came out victorious via unanimous decision. Silva’s suspension expires five days before the event.
Silva (18-5, 1 no-contest) defeated Mike Kyle and Fedor Emelianenko after defeating Arlovski, and holds a UFC record of 2-2 with one no-contest. The Brazilian once challenged Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight championship, losing via first-round TKO.
Arlovski (22-10, 1 no-contest) returned to the Octagon with a controversial split decision win over Brendan Schaub in June. Prior to this fight, “The Pitbull” went the distance against Mike Kyle and finished Andreas Kraniotakes.
