UFC 175 live blog: Marcus Brimage vs. Russell Doane

This is the UFC 175 live blog for Marcus Brimage vs. Russell Doane, a bantamweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Brimage, who has won three of his four UFC fights, will face Doane, who won his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 34, on the main card.

Round 1: Mario Yamasaki is the referee in charge of the action. Brimage is southpaw while Doane is orthodox. Brimage is first to connect with an inside leg kick. Doane scores with a snatch double and almost passes. Brimage goes turtle and fights off the d’arce, but remains in turtle.  Doane eventually takes the back and is trying to score the rear naked choke. So far Brimage hangs on, but it’s touch and go. Brimage gets his shoulders to the mat and escapes in a scramble with a minute left in the round. Brimage kicks the post leg of Doane as the Hawaiian whiffs on his own kick.

Round 2: A right hook from Brimage cracks Doane and drops him. As Brimage rushes in, Doane attempts a double, but Brimage sprawls and eventually separates. Doane is knocked to the canvas again with a hard leg kick. Doane appears to be hurt there, but hangs on. Doane pushes forward again and gets Brimage’s back briefly, but this time Brimage separates and they’re striking. Brimage goes right back to the hurt leg. Doane clinches and is driving knees to Brimage’s body. Now Doane level changes against the fence and tries to yank Brimage out, but he rolls over, covers Doane’s head and escapes. Hard outside leg kick from Brimage.

Round 3: Brimage catches a kick and drives Doane to the canvas. Doane tries to pull guard, but Brimage escapes. Brimage lands that inside leg kick again and drops Doane, but doesn’t follow up. Doane stands. And other, this time the outside leg kick. Doane now switching stances to avoid being kicked. Brimage lands a right that stings, but doesn’t rock Doane. Another hard inside leg lick to Doane’s lead leg. This time on the outside. Doane shoots, but is stuffed.
