Pat Curran will put the Bellator featherweight title on the line on September 5, when he finally meets two-time tournament winner Patricio “Pitbull” Freire at Bellator 123. Combate first reported the bout, and MMAFighting.com confirmed the news with sources close to the situation.

Curran (20-5) first fought Freire in January 2013, defending his title via split decision on Bellator’s first live event on Spike TV. Curran lost his belt to Daniel Strauss ten months later, but got it back in a rematch in March. Curran was expected to fight “Pitbull” in June, but was forced out of the bout with an injury.

“Pitbull” (21-2) won four straight since losing to Curran at Bellator 85, scoring knockout victories over Diego Nunes, Jared Downing and most recently Justin Wilcox.

Bellator 123 takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. UFC will also hold a nearby event on the same night, a Fight Night card headlined by Ronaldo Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi at the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
