Legacy FC has added another jiu-jitsu world champion to its roster with the signing of Augusto Mendes, better known in the jiu-jitsu community as “Tanquinho.”
Mendes, who won the jiu-jitsu world championship in 2013, has signed a deal with the promotion, Legacy FC owner Mick Maynard informed MMAFighting.com on Thursday.
“I signed the contract yesterday,” Mendes confirmed to MMAFighting.com. “I will fight on their card in November.”
Legacy FC has yet to announce a date and venue for a show in November.
Mendes competed for the first time under MMA rules in 2013, when he submitted James Carskaden in 36 seconds in an amateur bout. The bantamweight prospect made his professional debut four months later, and tapped Xavier Ramirez in 90 seconds.
“Tanquinho”, who trains with former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson for his MMA fights, improved his professional record to 2-0 on Aug. 2, when he stopped Omar Castro with a second-round armbar in Mesa, Arizona (watch the entire fight here). All of his MMA fights took place under the Duel for Domination banner.
