UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones underwent successful knee surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday.
According to a member of his management team, Jones is already out of the hospital, walking with crutches while his injured leg is in a brace.
Jones tore the meniscus in his left knee on Monday while training with new teammate Alistair Overeem in New Mexico. In addition to the knee injury, he suffered a high ankle sprain in two different places. As a result of the injuries, Jones withdrew from his title fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 178. The fight has since been rescheduled for Jan. 3.
It is unclear at this time how long Jones will need to recover from the injuries, as he is scheduled to meet with his doctors on Monday to get a better sense of his recovery timetable. Typically, a surgically-repaired meniscus takes 4-to-6 weeks to heal, however, the ankle sprain complicates things a little bit.
