World Series of Fighting will crown the first WSOF heavyweight champion in October.
Following a quick knockout victory over UFC veteran Tim Hague in May, Smealinho Rama will collide against Derrick Mehmen for the inaugural WSOF heavyweight title at WSOF 14’s co-main event in Edmonton, Alberta, on Oct. 11.
WSOF’s matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the match-up to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.
Rama (8-1) enters the bout coming off back-to-back wins in Edmonton. After competing at the first WSOF Canada card earlier this year, defeating Steve Mocco via unanimous decision, “The Prince” returned three months later with a 101-second TKO win over Hague at Unified MMA 19.
Mehmen (18-5) earned a shot at the vacant title after racking up a perfect 3-0 record under the WSOF banner. The American Top Team heavyweight went the distance against Scott Barrett and Dave Huckaba after scoring a brutal knockout victory over Rolles Gracie in 2013.
Headlined by a welterweight clash between Jake Shields and Ryan Ford, WSOF 14 takes place at Edmonton’s Northlands Expo Centre.
