This is the UFC Fight Night 50 live blog for Matt Mitrione vs. Derrick Lewis, a heavyweight bout at Friday night’s UFC event at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn.
Mitrione, who has won two of his past five fights, will face Lewis, who is 2-0 in the UFC, on the main card.

Round 1: Mario Yamasaki is the ref. Lewis quickly to center, while Mitrione stays light on his feet bouncing around. It’s Mitrione who comes in first with a big shot, and moments later Derrick Lewis takes a short right uppercut, and down goes Lewis. Mitrione jumps on him throwing bombs. He starts with a big right hand. Now one, two, three more rights, Lewis is in trouble, he tries to get up, hammerfist, another right…and Yamasaki stops the fight. Wow! That was some supreme big boy violence right there. Looks liked Lewis ducked in at just the wrong moment to catch that uppercut, which didn’t even connect flush — but the velocity and power behind it did the trick. Lewis suffers his first loss in the UFC.
