Carlos Pereira’s Shooto Brazil title win ruled a no-contest by CBMMA

Former Shooto middleweight champion Carlos Alexandre Pereira claimed the Shooto Brazil welterweight championship with a split-decision victory over Luiz Gustavo Dutra in August, but he will have to return the belt.

Confederacao Brasileira de MMA (CBMMA), which oversees Shooto Brazil cards in Brazil, announced on Wednesday that the main event of Shooto Brazil 49 – Fight for BOPE 4 card, held at the Tijuca Tenis Clube in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 24, was overturned to a no-contest.

Dutra’s team, Renovacao Fight Team, protested the controversial decision, claiming that the Luta Livre prospect deserved the win over the Nova Uniao fighter.

According to Osiris Maia, an official member of CBMMA, five judges re-watched the bout, end all five scored the bout in favor of Dutra.

“All five judges scored it in favor of Dutra, so the result was overturned to a no-contest,” Maia told MMAFighting.com.

With the decision, Pereira’s MMA record now stands at 31-10-1 with one no-contest, while Dutra holds a 5-0 record with one no-contest.
