Alfred Angulo vs. James De La Rosa
Round 1: Referee Russell Mora is the third man in the ring. Angulo takes the center and paws out his jab. De La Rosa circles left and pops him back. Big overhand right for De La Rosa. De La Rosa digs to the body. Angulo walks him down to the ropes then blocks a three-punch combination. No answer. De La Rosa the more active fighter by far halfway through the opening round. Round 2: Angulo dials up his offense and fires off a series of jabs. De La Rosa backs into the ropes, rolls off a few combinations, then tries to go body-head. Angulo continues to press forward and pop off his jab. Hard right from the pocket cracks Angulo. De La Rosa breaks then presses with a few one-twos. Angulo goes over the top with a right. Round 3: De La Rosa pouring it on early. Angulo blocking most of his foe’s punches but failing to mount any return offense. De La Rosa stalks inside and fires off a succession of hard lefts. Round 4: Angulo keeping it tight and trying to work his jab, but De La Rosa is straight outclassing him right now. Another flurry from De La Rosa and Angulo retreats to his shell. De La Rosa goes over the top with a right. De La Rosa keeping busy and Angulo is absorbing most of these shots. Angulo stalks De La Rosa into the ropes and digs to the body. Round 6: De La Rosa keeping busy with his jab. De La Rosa continues to pour it on against the ropes. Angulo has yet to throw. De La Rosa returns to the center of the ring then unloads a salvo. Angulo absorbing everything. Lunging left from De La Rosa. Angulo is cut over his right eye. Mora warns Angulo to keep it above the belt. De La Rosa throwing with a furious pace. Round 7: De La Rosa treating that cut like a bullseye right now. De La Rosa paws out a few rights then blasts Angulo with a hard left. Angulo gets another firm warning from Mora for low blows. Angulo connects on a few short lefts but any power they may have had is gone. Angulo continues to trudge forward and hurts De La Rosa with a short left hook! Whoa! Round 1: Tony Weeks is the referee in charge of this IBF lightweight title fight. And we’re off. Vazquez throws first. Bey fires back a jab. Vazquez circles left and paws out a measured series of lefts. Vazquez keeping Bey at the end of his jab. Bey charges inside with a triple-jab, but nothing lands clean. Sharp left hook from Vazquez and he retreats back to range. Bey having trouble getting past that long left. Another triple-jab misses its mark for Bey. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Vazquez. Round 2: Vazquez sticking with his jab. Quick one-two from Vazquez. Vazquez dives inside and Bey ties up. They break. Vazquez with a quick dig to the body and it’s back to distance.
