Round 1: Herb Dean is the referee fro this flyweight title fight. Cariaso in southpaw stance, and Johnson immediately circles. Johnson floats in, ducks and fires off a rapid combo. Cariaso fakes a kick, then comes in up top. A little double-jab from Cariaso, and again…he’s not close. Johnson already showing his quicks. Big right hand into a takedown (all in one motion) from Johnson, and he goes to work in Cariaso’s guard. He steers Cariaso off the fence, and tries to step over into half guard. Can’t, and Cariaso in butterfly. Cariaso doing a good job of keeping Johnson in guard. Again Johnson kicks his legs out and tries to advance. Cariaso scoots to fence, and he eats a couple of knee right there as he tries to stand. He gets up, but Johnson still on him. Knee to the body from Johnson. Now Cariaso grabs a leg, and Johnson pivots free and slams a couple of shutter-speed fists into Cariaso’s head. They separate, and back to center. Kick to the body by Johnson, and Cariaso narrowly misses on a left. Mighty Mouse ties him up and in-tight he lands another knee to the body. They separate, and Johnson comes rushing in for a one-off. Leg kick from Cariaso, and right towards the end of the round, Johnson lands a huge right hand that staggers Cariaso! He tries a spinning kick to finish, but misses. End of the round, but Cariaso was hurt! Overhand right and a knee really hurt Cariaso at the end. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Johnson, 10-9.
Round 2: Body kick from Cariaso, and Johnson starts to move. He comes in with a high kick and then a solid combination follow-up, and Cariaso now on the ground. Johnson in his guard, and he squats to his feet, trying to advance. He’s in half-guard, and he’s landing little punches from a vulnerable position with an arm trapped. Johnson just ruling so far; Cariaso doesn’t have much for the champ. He’s staying heavy on top, and lands a couple of punches. He improves to side control, and he’s fishing out a kimura. He has that arm. He torques it free and it’s a matter of time, as Cariaso is wincing. And there’s the tap. It’s all over. What a methodical performance by the champion Demetrious Johnson. Wow. He listened to his corner/coach, Matt Hume, and executed.
