Former mixed martial arts fighter Jason “Mayhem” Miller was arrested on Thursday by members of the Orange Country Sheriff’s Department following a three-hour standoff with police, of which Miller live-tweeted throughout.
Miller (28-9, 1 NC), who last fought in May 2012 at UFC 146, had an outstanding felony arrest warrant on three counts of alleged domestic violence, stalking, and violation of a court order, which led to the standoff. Miller’s bizarre actions throughout the afternoon also resulted in the former fighter receiving an additional charge of obstructing/delaying a peace officer.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement late Thursday.
“At approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning, deputies attempted to serve the outstanding arrest on Miller in the driveway of the residence located at 26262 Avenida Calidad. Miller fled on foot and retreated into the residence where he remained barricaded for approximately four hours. Numerous commands and directives were made to Miller in an attempt to gain his compliance and surrender to deputies.
“As a result of Miller barricading himself in the residence and failure to comply with deupites’ directives to exit the residence, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) responded. After several unsuccessful attempts to establish verbal communication with Miller, SWAY and Hazardous Device Squad (HDS) investigators conducted a remote breach of the front door as a means of compromising the door locks. Immediately following the remote breach, Miller exited the residence through a rear door and surrendered to deputies by lying on the ground with his hands exposes. Miller was taken into custody uninjured during the incident.”
Miller is currently being held in Orange County Jail on $200,000 bail. The former fighter is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14.
