In a flyweight division not exactly deep with legit contenders, it only takes a couple of solid performances to gain attention.

And WIlson Reis has sure done his share to earn attention in his new weight class.

The former Elite XC bantamweight champion made it 2-0 since dropping to flyweight with an impressive finish of veteran Scott Jorgensen on Saturday. In what was technically a catchweight bout (128 pounds), Reis submitted Jorgensen at 3:28 of the first round at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Jorgensen, who had a tough weight cut after flight delays from the West Coast, looked sluggish from the start. Reis cracked him with a nasty body kick, which likely broke a rib, then followed in on the downed Jorgensen.

A series of punches from the top left Jorgensen open for the winning arm-triangle choke.

“I had I felt he had a weakness against southpaws, so I went from there,” said Reis (19-5), a Sao Paulo native now based in Philadelphia. “I threw my kick and I heard him snap and I went for the kill. When he started backing up, I knew he was hurt, I went in after him.”

Jorgensen (15-10), who has been in Zuffa since joining the WEC in 2008, has now dropped four of his past five fights.
