This is the UFC on FOX 13 live blog for Alistair Overeem vs. Stefan Struve, a heavyweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix on Saturday night
Overeem, who has won two of his past five fights, will face Struve, who also has won four of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: John McCarthy is the referee for this second main card fight. Big spot for both guys. They touch them up. Struve towers over Overeem, and he takes the center of the cage. Oblique kick from Overeem is errant. Now Overeem ties him up, and pushes Struve into the fence, where he lands a couple of knees in the clinch. Struve pushes him away, and he’s back to center. Struve with a body kick. Big knee to the body know from Struve, who so far is landing from his advantage of range. And just like that, Overeem shoots in and tackles Struve and ends up in his guard. He goes to work posturing up there, and drops a big right hand down. Here they come now in volume. Struve down what he can to control the wrists, but with each break he’s eating big shots. Overeem now postures to his feet and is sizing up a shot, but he ducks back into guard. Now Struve pushes Overeem off with his legs, but right now he is forced to lie on his back as he waits for Overeem’s attempt at reentry. Into the guard he goes. Overeem can’t get much going, so again stands up, and now he comes in and starts landing huge shots! Right hands, straight down onto Struve’s face. It looks like he’s out and McCarthy can’t see it. One more big blow, and McCarthy calls Overeem off! Wow. Huge win for Overeem, and he just laid heavy leather on Struve. Struve was already out before the last shot came in.
