WSOF consultant sentenced to 10 months in prison on tax charges

A World Series of Fighting “consultant” has been sentenced to prison time on tax charges.

Shawn Lampman, who was involved with WSOF for at least three years, will have to serve 10 months in federal prison on charges that he did not file a tax return in 2007, a judge ruled Monday per the Las Vegas Review Journal. That year, Lampman admits he made more than $7 million. U.S. District judge James Mahan also ordered Lampman to serve one year of supervised release at the conclusion of his prison term.

“This unfortunate personal event with one of our consultants will not get in the way of the World Series of Fighting and the significant activities we have planned for 2015 with NBC broadcasting,” WSOF said in a statement to MMAFighting.com. “All future activity will be fully coordinated by our very able management team and others, as we prepare for our upcoming show next Saturday, January 17.

“Most important, our fans, sponsors and partners at NBC can rest assured that the WSOF will always provide world class fighting entertainment as our brand continues to grow throughout the world.”

Lampman, 49, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count in April. He was also ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the IRS. Lampman is a former real estate developer in Las Vegas, who once held political connections in North Las Vegas. He now works as a consultant.

Lampman’s connection to World Series of Fighting is vague, though the organization calls him a “consultant.” WSOF was listed on his LinkedIn account and Bloody Elbow reported last year that Lampman handled much of WSOF’s day-to-day business. Ray Sefo, a well-known name in MMA and kickboxing, is the president of WSOF and the face of the company.

WSOF executive Ali Abdel-Aziz, the promotion’s lead matchmaker, would not comment on Lampman’s situation when reached Tuesday.

Lampman has been given until April 6 to surrender to federal authorities. His lawyer blamed the transgressions on Lampman’s gambling addiction and substance abuse.

Lampman, an ex-business partner of former North Las Vegas mayor Michael Montandon, was charged with failing to file tax returns from 2006 to 2008 in April 2013.
