A heavyweight slugfest will headline the UFC’s return to San Diego.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will tangle with Todd Duffee in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card on July 15 at Valley View Casino Center. The bout was reported by MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.

The 35-year old Mir (17-9) appeared to be on his way out when he lost four consecutive fights from 2012-14. But, given one more opportunity, he scored a memorable upset of Antonio Silva via first-round knockout on Feb. 22 in Brazil.

Duffee (9-2), meanwhile, was sidelined in 2013 and much of 2014 due to a bout of Parsonage Turner Syndrome. But he returned to action with a 33-second knockout of Anthony Hamilton at UFC 181. Duffee has won his past three fights by way of first-round stoppage. All nine of his career victories are by KO or TKO.
