Former UFC heavyweight Heath Herring (28-14) hasn’t fought since August of 2008 when he lost a unanimous decision to Brock Lesnar back at UFC 87. Since that time “The Texas Crazy Horse” has had only one scheduled fight, that being a matchup with current UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez at UFC 99. Herring was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed injury.
He’s gone on to act in several movies such as Never Surrender, Hell’s Chain, Unrivaled, Circle of Pain, Beatdown, as well as a number of other films in pre-production.
Herring still has the desire to step into the cage but he’s at the mercy of the UFC, well for the next year anyway. The former promotion has the right to match any fight offers he receives but he doesn’t think the UFC will let him “sing somewhere else.”
“There were a couple of times [since the Lesnar fight] where the UFC wanted me to go overseas and do a fight for them, but it was tough. The UFC would do things like ask me to fight overseas but then only pay for one hotel room for me and my coaching staff. If I’m having to pay for hotel rooms, and they’re making as much money as they are on pay-per-views, it’s just not financially worthwhile for me to take that fight. I’m kind of in a weird deal with the UFC right now. Supposedly I’m free and clear, but the UFC is able to match any offer I get for a year. I’ve had some offers, but I’m not sure if the UFC would let me sign somewhere else.”
