Stephanie McMahon says she doesn’t know if anything will happen with Ronda Rousey in WWE

After Dana White seemed to nix the idea of Ronda Rousey appearing again with WWE last week, Stephanie McMahon, the company’s Chief Brand Officer behind-the-scenes and nastiest heel on the stage, was uncertain about what comes next.

McMahon didn’t admit to any plans for a match with Rousey at next year’s WrestleMania show in April at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, given it’s up to White for it to happen. Even if he said it was okay, to admit to it now would be giving away the climax of a storyline that is a long time away. She she said as much as she could.

“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about that,” she said when asked by Chris Jericho about the rumored match. “Is it a plan? No.”

McMahon admitted that in real life she’s a huge Rousey fan in an interview segment on the WWE Network Thursday night with Jericho. She praised Rousey for being a woman who is a legitimate money-drawing main eventer, and felt she was a good role model for her own daughters, and even said Rousey was a prototype of what her company could do as far as giving women more of a chance in main event situations.

“I think it’s something we need to work on and we need to do, we need to give it a chance and we need to do more with it,” she said about her own company’s female performers.

“I’m a legitimate fan of hers,” said McMahon. “She is amazing. She dumped the ice bucket on me (last summer in an ice bucket challenge). She’s legitimate and she is a woman drawing in main events for the UFC, and that is awesome. She is unapologetic and so herself, and is having this incredible career, which is so inspiring. I want my daughters to look up to her. She’s paving the way.”

McMahon said right now she doesn’t know what is happening next. Sources in WWE have said that those in the company were very surprised that White came out so strong that Rousey wouldn’t be doing any pro wrestling again, and calling the March 29 appearance a “one-and-done.”

“In terms of the plan, I don’t know if we’ll see anything happen from it, but it was so much fun at WrestleMania,” said McMahon.

“She’s a legitimate badass. She could have broken my arm in a heartbeat. To be able to do that segment with her and with the crowd loving it so much, people want to know who’s going to get to me, but Ronda is a whole nother element.”
