Round 1: John McCarthy is the referee. Silva begins stalking right away. Palelei eats a knee, but catches the leg to attempt a takedown. Palelei struggles with the effort and so far can get nothing, and then they separate. Palelei shoots again, and is quickly stuffed. They clinch again after another knee from Silva, this time with Silva looking for the takedown. Palelei hits a harai gohshi, but Silva sits through for deep half. Silva eats some hammerfists and moves to open full guard. Palelei ends the round postured up and landing big shots.
