Kelvin Gastelum is getting his wish.
The former Ultimate Fighter winner wanted to move back down to welterweight and he will — against Matt Brown in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale on Nov. 21 in Monterrey, Mexico. UFC officials confirmed the fight Tuesday. The bout was initially reported by Mexican outlet Indiscutido.
Gastelum (11-1) missed weight badly against Tyron Woodley at UFC 183 in January. Afterward, UFC president Dana White forced him to move up to middleweight. Back at 185, where he won The Ultimate Fighter 17, Gastelum, 23, finished Nate Marquardt by second-round TKO at UFC 188 in June. He said following that fight that he has nutritionist and was targeting a trip back down to 170.
He’ll do it against Brown (20-13), one of the best and most violent welterweights on the planet. Brown is coming off a first-round submission win over Tim Means at UFC 189 last month. Before that, he had lost two straight, to Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks. Overall, though, the 34-year-old has won eight of his last 10 fights.
The TUF Latin America Finale will mark the third time the UFC has been to Mexico and the first time in Monterrey. Gastelum is a coach on the second season of the reality show in Mexico alongside Efrain Escudero, who will meet Leandro Silva at the Finale, according to Indiscutido.
