Judgement day is coming for Anderson Silva.
The former longtime UFC middleweight champion will have his disciplinary hearing in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission due to his steroid test failures on Aug. 13.
However, Silva’s team believes there are inconsistencies in the drug tests, which will clear his name, MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported the news on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight
The 40-year-old Silva defeated Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in his return after suffering a gruesome leg injury against Chris Weidman at UFC 168.
After the bout, it was revealed that Silva had failed a pre-fight drug test for the anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Androstane. In February, NAC revealed Silva also flunked a post-fight drug test for Drostanolone.
While Silva’s team believes their are inconsistencies in the drug tests, NAC’s Bob Bennett told MMAFighting “I anticipate our findings to be accurate.”
Since Silva’s fight was held prior to July 1, when NAC’s more stringent performance-enhancing drug rules went into effect, Silva’s penalties will be under the old guidelines, which means a penalty of nine months to a year could be retroactively applied.
Meanwhile, the other half of the equation, Diaz, tested positive for marijuana metabolites after the fight, his third such failure in Nevada. Diaz is also on the Aug. 13 agenda, but his legal team is requesting a postponement, citing a scheduling conflict.
