Paul Daley has his opponent set for Bellator MMA: Dynamite 1.
The British star will meet Fernando Gonzalez in a kickboxing match on the hybrid card Sept. 19 in San Jose, sources told MMAFighting.com. The matchup was confirmed by Bellator spokesman Danny Brener.
Daley, 32, is a UFC and Strikeforce veteran with a handful of major welterweight MMA fights on his record. He is also an accomplished kickboxer and alum of K-1 with a record of 20-3. The England native has won four straight in MMA and is coming off a second-round TKO of Dennis Olson at Bellator 140 last month. Daley is primed for a potential fight with new Bellator welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov down the line.
Gonzalez has won four straight MMA fights with Bellator, including a third-round submission over Curtis Millender back in May. He has beaten Karo Parisyan, Marius Zaromskis and Karl Amoussou during this stretch. Gonzalez, 31, is a hard-nosed, scrappy striker out of Dan Henderson’s Team Quest in Temecula, Calif. He is coming off a 90-day suspension for marijuana following the win over Millender, his second offense.
Bellator: Dynamite is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Liam McGeary and MMA legend Tito Ortiz. The card also features a four-man, one-night light heavyweight tournament with Phil Davis, Muhammed Lawal, Emanuel Newton and Linton Vassell.
The GLORY part of the card, inside a kickboxing ring, will have two title fights: Saulo Cavalari vs. Zack Mwekassa for the vacant light heavyweight belt and featherweight champion Gabriel Varga taking on Serhiy Adamchuk.
