Former bantamweight champion gives his opinion on the T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz title fight, and also talks about his future in the UFC.
Watching the next bantamweight title fight on his television for the first time in a long time, former champion Renan Barao gave a quick analysis of the clash between T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz.
As he spoke to Globo Esporte, he believes ring rust could give Dillashaw the edge in a fight that should be very close.
“I guess Dillashaw will have an advantage because he has been fighting. He has had more competition. Dominick Cruz, however, has been competing in wrestling since a very young age so he might not even feel all the time he has been away. It will be a close and tough fight for both of them.”
As for his own future, Barao says he is ready to go as soon as the UFC says the word. He could even test the waters at the featherweight division sooner rather than later.
“I began the year training hard. It’s very likely I’ll get a fight in this first semester. I’m just waiting for the UFC to say something. I gained some weight too, so maybe I could have a fight at featherweight and then drop down again. We’ll see how it goes after I have this one fight at 145.”
In his last outing, Renan Barao lost to T.J. Dillashaw in the fourth round of their title fight at UFC on Fox 16, on July 25 in Chicago.
