With well-known sluggers Ed Herman and Tim Boetsch standing opposite each other in a Light Heavyweight affair on the UFC Fight Night 81 “Prelims” on FOX Sports 1 tonight (Sun., Jan. 17, 2016), one had to expect a thrilling back-and-forth tussle.
And that’s what transpired inside the TD Garden in Boston as Herman searched to establish some consistency in his UFC run, while “The Barbarian” was desperately trying to avoid a third-straight loss in “Beantown.”
The pair of heavy-handed knockout artists connected early with Boetsch utilizing his power right hand to counter the left of Herman. The Maine native tagged Herman in round one with a huge punch, but “Short Fuse” ate it.
Some clinch work ensued, with both men looking to establish position. The 34-year-old Boetsch mixed in some solid leg kicks throughout the course of the frame and it was a close one, which saw Herman close the distance quite a few times and score with good knees.
Herman then capitalized when he saw an opening in the clinch in round two, landing a massive knee strike that crippled Boetsch and awarded the former a second-round victory via knockout.
The 35-year-old Herman moves to 23-11-(1), while Boetsch falls to 18-10.
