Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Patrick Cote has now won three consecutive fights — including two straight by way of violent knockout — and 10 of his last 12, so you can understand why “The Predator” is looking for a big name his next time out.
And from the promotional side, they don’t get much bigger than Nick Diaz.
“There’s a guy who’s coming back in August, it’s Nick Diaz,” Cote told reporters in Boston. “I would be very happy to share the Octagon with him. He’s a big name. I have nothing personal against him. I’m a big fan of the Diaz brothers. I know he’s going to bring it. It’s going to be a fun fight to promote. If it’s not him, I think I really deserve to be in the top 15 and fight a top 15 guy.”
Sounds good to me.
Cote (23-9), who once competed for the middleweight crown, was recently seen knocking around Ben Saunders at last weekend’s UFC Fight Night 81 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1. Prior to that, “The Predator” beat the brakes off welterweight stalwart Josh Burkman.
Diaz, winless since 2011, returns from his disciplinary suspension this summer.
