Tweets of the Day: Werdum and Miocic trade firefighter barbs

UFC 196 will not host a Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic bout after all, but both men are being salty with each other on social media.

UFC 196 is a mess. You’re probably aware that Fabricio Werdum isn’t defending his UFC heavyweight title against anyone on the card now. It has also been moved off of PPV and onto Fox Sports 1 due to the loss of a headliner. A lot of blame has been thrown in Werdum’s direction for his statement that he would have stayed on the card to fight Cain Velasquez, but not to fight Stipe Miocic. Miocic’s manager had some words for Werdum yesterday, and it seems that Werdum decided to take to social media to respond today.

I will fight against you @stipemiocicufc anytime after my recovery. I think you are a great fire fighter.

Burn. Miocic was quick to respond though:

Alright @FabricioWerdum let’s make it for Memorial Day weekend. I’ll even let you ride next to MY belt in the fire truck during the parade.

Then it got silly:

@stipemiocicufc ok. Since I was a kid I’ve been dreaming about to have a firefighter’s belt… pic.twitter.com/vUsokkWrCQ

I thought I was bad at talking shit. Jesus. https://t.co/5YjgGAvKVt

Miocic also cleared up some rumors that he was offered a heavyweight title fight with Jon Jones in the UFC 196 headliner, but turned it down:

Oh and for the record I didn’t turn down shit. I took a championship fight on 2 weeks notice and it got cancelled. That’s the end of it.

So while we’re getting some decent humor out of the deal, we still won’t have a HW fight. Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson will headline FS1 196 on February 6th.
