Damn you, Cain Velasquez! And you, too, Fabricio Werdum.
Because of you and your not-so silly, probably very serious “injuries,” the skeleton crew at MMAmania.com will have to now spend countless, confusing hours trying to correct weeks of work on upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fight cards.
That’s because the world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion tonight decided to change UFC 196: “Hendricks vs. Thompson” to UFC Fight Night 82: “Hendricks vs. Thompson” since it will now air on FOX Sports 1 rather than pay-per-view (PPV). Indeed, the loss of the Heavyweight championship main event between Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez — and then Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic — certainly left a lot to be desired on the $50 per-PPV front, but this decision to re-name the upcoming event on Feb. 6, 2016, will wreak havoc on just about everything, including the promotion’s own existing marketing materials, advertising, website, etc.
Maybe we should just blame Jon Jones again, right? Is normal (at least it used to be).
Anyway, as you can imagine, UFC 197: “dos Anjos vs. McGregor” is now UFC 196: “dos Anjos vs. McGregor,” which is still scheduled for March 5, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In fact, no dates or venues have changed at this time; however, the promotion will probably have to do some re-shuffling and/or maneuvering to get to its landmark UFC 200 event, which is still official for July 9, 2016.
In other words, this is probably going to get better before it gets worse on the UFC event naming convention front. Pray for us Bear with us.
