Strikeforce and UFC veteran Ryan Couture was Exhibit A of why you keep your hands up, chin down and never lead with your face when you punch (see video above courtesy Zombie Prophet).
The fight began with Couture pushing Patricky Freire toward the fence trying to land strikes and take the fight into his world of grinding and wearing down opponents just like his father “The Natural” Randy used to do.
Couture found some initial success with a knockdown just over a minute into the fight but Freire bounced back up and used hard punches to get distance and respect.
Although Couture was game, he was finally laid out just three minutes into the first round via a left hook that left the grappler looking like a marionette whose strings had been cut.
With the win, Freire gets his tenth career knockout in his 15-7 professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record. Couture, meanwhile, ends his four fight winning streak he’d built up since being cut by UFC, falling to 10-3.
