Tito Ortiz is a ‘Trump guy’: Not just Mexicans we worry about, it’s the Muslims, the radicals

Former UFC champion Tito Ortiz heaped praise on the current leading Republican candidate in interview on Friday.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, UFC Hall of Famer  and current Bellator talent Tito Ortiz had some interesting thoughts on display during an interview with Nick Wright and John Lopez on their radio show In The Loop on SportsRadio 10 in Houston, TX regarding the upcoming presidential election.

Perhaps surprisingly, the choice for him was Donald Trump, whom he met while on the set of Celebrity Apprentice during season 7. Tito was “fired” from the show [which will now be hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger], but had solace in the fact that Trump considered him to be “special“.

Ortiz began with an anecdote of asking Trump how he became successful, and Ortiz was impressed with the businessman’s drive and motivation.

Ortiz: “Uh, I did the Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump, and uh, that was the first thing I asked him. I go ‘how did you become a billionaire?’ [Trump voice] Well, Tito…”

Host Nick Wright: “My dad gave me the money!! No, just kidding! Go ahead!”

Ortiz: “No, no. He goes ‘I never stopped working’. He goes ‘From when I wake up to when I go to to bed i do not stop working’. And for a person to become a billionaire, to be flat broke bankrupt, to rebuild himself to be a billionaire and now to become almost the President of the United States, it’s amazing. He’s a hard worker. He can make America great again. That’s my vote for him”

“I’m a Trump guy. I wasn’t in the beginning, of course, I’m Mexican when he said we need to take all the Mexicans out of United States, well good luck on that one. They’ll find a way to get back here anyways. But, you know in the long run, I think he wants to bring money back to our country and with the debt that we are, I think he has an opportunity to do that.”

Regarding the Republican candidate’s proposal regarding building a massive wall along the border with Mexico, Ortiz expanded his thoughts to include his concerns of possible terrorists sneaking through the border into the United States.

“You really gotta think about – it’s just not Mexicans that we have worry about, you know? It’s the Muslims, it’s the radicals, that come in that have the opportunity to come in from that way [Mexico] to our country and do the things with terrorism that’s, it’s hindering our country. I mean, we shouldn’t be afraid to walk around and look over our shoulders and some guy has a bomb in his pocket or something stupid. I mean, it’s a radical, I think it needs to be taken care of and the president that we have now did not do that job, um… So I think in my opinion, I think Trump could help make that a lot better.”

We should note that Trump still has to actually win the party’s nomination, and a lot of things can happen between now and the primaries. It is also safe to assume even without a physics degree that it seems very unlikely that that anyone with a bomb in their pocket can do very much with it.

Ortiz’s last bout was a round 1 submission loss to Bellator 205lb champion Liam McGeary at the Bellator: Dynamite!! show in September 2015.
