“I’ve seen him, he’s fun to watch. He talks a good game and he backs it up so far. He’s moving up in weight class. I was with Georges St-Pierre this weekend in Montreal and he’s think that he (McGregor) shouldn’t move up in weight so quickly. He says it might be a different outcome with the bigger weight class of course. But, so far he’s proving everybody wrong, he’s knocking everyone out and he’s fun to watch. I like him.”
Just months after claiming the Featherweight title with a 13-second, one-punch knockout over long-time Featherweight champion Jose Aldo (read full recap here), Conor McGregor will look to conquer the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight division by taking out division champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 on March 5, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But, according to former Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, “Notorious” may be moving up in weight too soon. Those comments were relayed by one of St-Pierre’s trainers, Freddie Roach. He’s apparently not alone, with former 205-pound champion Jon Jones (details), as well as company president Dana White (details), thinking that the Irishman might have bitten off more steak than he can chew with dos Anjos.
St-Pierre would know a thing or three about greedy trash-talking champions trying to collect belts.
But, as Roach tells Fight Hub, “Mystic Mac” has not only talked the talk, but he’s proven everyone wrong while making all of his predictions to date become a reality.
Will he do it again and make “Rush,” Jones and White, among others, true believers in the process?
