The plot thickens.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will appear in court this Wednesday (Feb. 10, 2016) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

For what? Well, that depends on who you ask.

Jones was cited for driving without a driver’s licence, registration, or proof of insurance back on Jan. 31, according to a local report (read it). But Denise White, CEO of PR and crisis management firm EAG Sports, told MMA Junkie that her client was pulled over for speeding.

No more, no less.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy didn’t charge him with speeding, but White insists “Bones” is both licensed and insured. Perhaps he was stopped for going too fast and subsequently failed to produce the required paperwork?

That could go a long way in determining his future, as the embattled mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has been serving probation for last year’s hit-and-run accident and cannot afford any complications. Not if he expects to compete against Daniel Cormier at UFC 197 in April.

The Albuquerque district attorney’s office, as well as UFC officials, are “looking into the issue,” according to the report.
