Is it a threat? A promise? Or just some passing weirdness from the UFC heavyweight champ directed and featherweight star Conor McGregor?
Promise me it won’t get weird. Or, at least not weirder than this, but this is a pretty high bar. As Conor McGregor takes his show on the road to the lightweight division, he’s made a somewhat surprising enemy. Not Rafael dos Anjos, although there’s certainly no love lost between the lightweight champ and the Irishman, but dos Anjos’ teammate, heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum, who has taken a serious disliking to the UFC’s featherweight kingpin.
Werdum and McGregor have been trading shots in the media, ever since a Werdum told a story about Mcgregor wanting to train at Kings MMA. As things between McGregor and the two Kings MMA champs have become more heated in recent days, McGregor took a moment during the World MMA Awards to put Werdum on blast for pulling out of a potential bout with Stipe Miocic. McGregor called Werdum a “pussy” for “pulling out with a sore toe,” while accepting his “Fighter of the Year”award.
Looks like Werdum didn’t take that kindly? Or took it too kindly? It’s a bit hard to tell. Whatever the message’s subtext, the central theme was pretty clear, and all over social media for the world to see.
Please Werdum :: Go slow :: easy you are a heavyweight !!! Wow !!! Now I love you more than #DanaWhite . now I know why #vaicavalo
There’s just about zero chance the two men ever fight in a cage (if fighting is what Werdum has in mind), but it looks like the media war may be just getting started.
