Fabio Maldonado returns to his roots for a boxing fight against Robson Oliveira on February 27, at heavyweight. Then he’ll be back in MMA to fight Andrew Smith on March 19.
After a six-year hiatus, Fabio Maldonado will return to his roots as he accepted to face Robson Oliveira in a boxing match on February 27, in Brazil, as Globo Esporte reported.
Following a 5-6 UFC run which ended with two consecutive losses to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Corey Anderson, Maldonado will fight in the ring again, but this time as a heavyweight in a 10-round fight in his home state of Sao Paulo. He remains undefeated in the sport, with a record of 22 wins and 22 KO’s. Oliveira, a muay thai practicioner, is only 3-0.
“It’s like the saying goes: ‘The good son always comes back home’, right? My next fight will be boxing rules, only.” Maldonado said.
Most recently, Maldonado also fough at submission event on February 11, alongside UFC fighters Charles Oliveira and Jessica Andrade, where he defeated Carlos Henrique with a kimura. Oliveira and Andrade won their bouts as well.
Fabio Maldonado’s MMA run is far from over, however, as he also has an MMA contest scheduled for March 19, at XFC, also in Sao Paulo. He will go back to light-heavyweight to take 15-9 Hawaiian, Andrew Smith.
