These days, Jon Jones is all about evolution.
After revealing he was on the straight and narrow following a tumultuous 2015 that saw him battle addiction and get stripped of his title following a hit-and-run accident, “Bones” picked up a healthy hobby in the form of weight lifting.
Now, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion is further adding to his dangerous arsenal, announcing via Instagram the addition of two Brazilian jiu-jitsu masterminds, Roberto Tussa Alencar and Rafael Freitas.
So who exactly are these two submission wizards?
Alencar is a black belt under Carlinhos Gracie and runs a Gracie Barra-affiliated gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As far as his achievements in the jiu-jitsu world, he has numerous notches under his belt, including being a four-time champion at the World No Gi, Pan American title, and countless medals in competitions around the world.
Freitas, meanwhile, boasts a laundry list of accomplishments himself, including multiple world championships and medals and serves as an instructor in “The Duke City.”
When you add them to the mix of Jones’ coaches and trainers at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA, it’s obvious that “Bones” isn’t cutting any corners in his quest to recapture his 205-pound title when he faces Daniel Cormier at UFC 197 on April 23, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
