Joe Rogan isn’t a fan of CM Punk making his MMA debut in the octagon.
When the UFC signed former pro wrestler Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, back in late 2014, there were a lot of fans outraged at the idea of a man with no prior MMA experience making his debut in the octagon. Well, it’s been 15 months and he still doesn’t have a fight scheduled, though he was briefly tied to one with Mickey Gall before he suffered an injury.
One person that is still not a fan of the whole idea is UFC announcer Joe Rogan. On his recent podcast, he discussed the issue of Punk with Bas Rutten, and he thinks Punk should have made his debut outside of the UFC:
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with that guy. I don’t understand this whole thing. Well, I also think it’s ridiculous for him to fight in the UFC. I think he should fight in a small organization. Take a fight in a small organization, build yourself up. I have always said that’s what should have happened with Brock Lesnar.”
Lesnar actually did fight once outside the UFC, defeating Min Soo Kim at K-1 Dynamite. He was then signed to the organization and famously lost to Frank Mir before going on to win the UFC heavyweight title.
At 37, Punk’s window for fighting is getting smaller and smaller, so hopefully he can get into the octagon with Gall as soon as possible.
