Nick Diaz mocks Joe Rogan, Conor McGregor with vegan jokes following UFC 196

Two-time UFC title challenger Nick Diaz posts a string of tweets making fun of Joe Rogan and Conor McGregor for losing to Nate Diaz at UFC 196.

MMA fans weren’t the only ones celebrating Nate Diaz’s triumph over Conor McGregor at UFC 196 last weekend. A large portion of the online vegan community bombared social media in support of Diaz, who had claimed to follow a vegan diet in the past. It should be noted, however, that both Diaz brothers have been filmed and pictured eating fish and dairy products, which would mean they adhere to a pescetarian diet, not a vegan one.

Vegans do not consume any animal products – meat, fish, dairy and eggs — and also refrain from using any cosmetics or clothing products that depend on animal exploitation. The Vegan Society’s definition reads as follows, “veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.”

Despite the confusion around Diaz’ diet, Nick Diaz recently posted a string of tweets mocking Joe Rogan and Conor McGregor for losing to his little brother on Saturday.

Rogan, who has been a continuous critic of the vegan lifestyle, invited the creators of popular Netlfix documentary Cowspiracy onto his podcast in January. The longtime UFC commentator was sceptical of athletic performance on a vegan diet, despite several world class athletes such as Carl Lewis, the Williams’ sisters, and free-running champion Timothy Shieff excelling on the diet.

The most notable UFC fighter to embrace the vegan lifestyle is former Ultimate Fighter season 6 winner Mac Danzig. Danzig, who retired after his loss to Joe Lauzon, has been a vegan since 2006 and was featured on the Forks Over Knives documentary.

Nate Diaz submitted Conor McGregor in the 2nd round at UFC 196 and will likely catapult into title-contendership against Rafael dos Anjos or Robbie Lawler.
