There might not be any UFC, Bellator or WSOF action going down this weekend in the mixed martial arts (MMA) world, but there was regional promotion Classic Entertainment and Sports (CES) hosting a CES 33 event, featuring a bantamweight title bonanza pitting Andre Soukhamthath against Kody Norby.
Soukhamthath withstood the wrestling and pressure of his 23-year-old opponent, Nordby, while showcasing his diverse stand-up game along the way. “The Rookie” was tough, but not hardened enough to handle a flying knee, which the Blackzilians representative Soukhamthath used to put an end to their headliner in round five.
Elsewhere on the card Connecticut’s Matt Bessette choked out 25-fight veteran Taurean Bogguess with a triangle choke on the mat after a slick display of grappling, while heavyweight combatants Greg Rebello and Keith Bell threw caution to the wind, giving fans in Lincoln, Rhode Island an electric treat.
Lastly, Nate Andrew put forth a brilliant striking clinic in a lightweight contest against Julian Lane.
