A handful of fights have been made official for a UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on May 29, including the main event of Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt.
During FOX Sports 1’s UFC Fight Night 85 broadcast on Saturday night, the UFC confirmed a UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas as well as several fights set for the card.
Tarec Saffiedine is set to welcome Rick Story back to the Octagon in a welterweight matchup.
Saffiedine (16-4) recently got back into action with a unanimous decision win over Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FOX 18 earlier this year. Prior to that, he was stopped by former title challenger Rory MacDonald in a headlining bout in late 2014.
Story (18-8) has been sidelined with injuries since his upset decision win over Gunnar Nelson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 53 in late 2014. Prior to that, he lost to Kelvin Gastelum by decision at UFC 171.
Jorge Masvidal is set to square off with Lorenz Larkin at 170-pounds.
Masvidal (29-10) recently moved up to the welterweight division after a successful run at 155-pounds, and debuted in the new weight class with a vicious first-round knockout over Cezar Ferreira last summer. In his most recent outing, however, he lost to former UFC champ Ben Henderson by decision.
Larkin (16-5) made his debut at welterweight after dropping down from 185-pounds early last year, and picked up consecutive knockout wins over John Howard and Santiago Ponzinibbio. In his latest outing, he lost a decision to Albert Tumenov.
In a middleweight bout between two veterans, Chris Camozzi is set to meet Vitor Miranda.
Camozzi (23-10) was re-signed to the promotion last year but suffered his second loss to Ronaldo Souza by first-round tap-out. He’s currently riding a two-fight winning streak with a decision over Tom Watson and an impressive first-round knockout over Joe Riggs.
Miranda (12-4), after losing to Antonio Carlos Junior in the TUF: Brazil 3 Finals in 2014, has won three-straight by knockout over Jake Collier, Clint Hester and most recently Marcelo Guimaraes earlier this month.
Also on the main card, Paul Felder is slated to face Josh Burkman in a lightweight clash.
Felder (11-2) recently got back into the winning column with a third-round submission victory over Daron Cruickshank this past January at UFC Fight Night 81. Prior to that, he was upset by veteran Ross Pearson.
Burkman (28-12) returned to the UFC at the beginning of last year but suffered three straight losses to Hector Lombard (later overturned to a no-contest), Dong Hyun Kim and Patrick Cote. However, Burkman recently dropped down to the 155-pound division and took home a decision win over K.J. Noons in his debut fight at UFC on FOX 18 this past January.
Also scheduled for UFC Fight Night 88 on the preliminary card:
- Abel Trujillo vs. Diego Ferreira
- Erik Koch vs. Joe Proctor
- Jake Collier vs. Keith Berish
- Chris De La Rocha vs. Adam Milstead
Headlining the card is a pivotal bantamweight bout between Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt, which was reported earlier this week. In the co-feature, former 135-pound champion Renan Barao debuts at featherweight vs. Jeremy Stephens, also reported earlier this week.
UFC Fight Night takes place live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 29. The FS1 main card starts at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT.
