Stann: Mir has nothing left to prove, should become an analyst

UFC announcer Brian Stann believes that Frank Mir should set aside from MMA and try out a career as a broadcaster.

As a retired fighter, Brian Stann understands how brutal the sport of MMA can be. Stann now works as a UFC broadcaster and analyst, and after watching Frank Mir get knocked out for the eighth time in his career by Mark Hunt at UFC Brisbane, he believes that it might be time for Mir to hang ’em up. He said as much during the event’s post-fight show on Fox Sports 1:

“Frank Mir has absolutely nothing left to prove in this sport. He won the heavyweight title twice. He’s one of the all-time greats. People could argue he’s the best heavyweight we’ve seen in the UFC because of the legacy he has.”

When asked if he wanted to see him fight anymore, Stann was frank with his answer. He also believes that a career in broadcasting might be in his future.

“I don’t. Everyone knows when they’ve seen me analyze sports, I’m really on the cautious side when it comes to retirement and putting yourself at risk. I think Frank Mir, the minute he retires, is an automatic induction into the Hall of Fame. I would like to see him put a suit and tie on, come behind this desk, because he’s forgotten more about this sport than most analysts will ever know.”

Mir (18-11, 16-11 UFC), who tied the promotion record with his 27th octagon appearance last night, has some announcing experience already – he handled color commentary on many WEC events back in the day. Despite what Stann thinks about a career change, fellow announcer and analyst Dan Hardy doesn’t think his friend will retire:

“He’s going to want to carry on. I know Frank Mir, and he’s going to want to prove something.”
