World Series of Fighting (WSOF) recently booked a heavyweight championship headliner for its upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) card on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), which takes place on Fri., June 17, 2016 inside Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut
Blagoy Ivanov vs. Josh Copeland.
After a torrid run under the Bellator MMA banner, the once-beaten Ivanov (13-1, 1 NC) crossed over to WSOF and put the hurt on Smealinho Rama (submission) and Derrick Mehmen (technical knockout). The Bulgarian has 11 finishes in 13 wins.
Hoping to end his run as heavyweight champion will be Copeland, who bounced around for awhile after a short stint for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). “Cuddly Bear” made his WSOF debut earlier this month in the form of a unanimous decision win over Mike Hayes.
In the WSOF 31 co-main event, Mike “The Martian” Ricci will bang it out with fellow UFC import “The Kansas City Bandit,” Jason High, for a spot in the 155-pound title hunt. Tickets for WSOF 31 go on sale this Friday (April 1) at 10 a.m. ET at WSOF.com and Foxwoods.com.
