At one time, Bellator lightweights Patricky Freire and Melvin Guillard seemed dead set on meeting each other for a fight, but “Pitbull” has since changed his mind and insists “Young Assassin” is no longer relevant.

Bellator 152: “Pitbull vs. Campos 2” comes to Pala Alpitour in Torino, Italy, on April 16, 2016. The featured fight that night is a lightweight rematch between Patricky Freire and Derek Campos, both of whom are returning off recent knockout wins.

One of those victories was Campos knocking out Melvin Guillard at Bellator 149 “Shamrock vs. Gracie 3,” a high-profile event that peaked at 2.5 million viewers on Spike TV, and was arguably the best finish of the broadcast.

As it stands, Guillard and Freire have bad blood dating back to 2015, no doubt made more volatile when Guillard was accused of ducking Freire to fight Campos.

“The Young Assassin” can’t resist mentioning Patricky on social media.

This is what happens when so call fighters are scared new opponent. Don’t worry pitbull your next come April. $$$

In a recent Sherdog interview, Freire decided to put an exclamation point on their feud by declaring that a fight with Guillard is no longer relevant.

“It’s not a fight that makes sense for me anymore. I wanted to fight Melvin before when the timing was right. Now he’s coming from three losses in a row. His name is not as valuable anymore. I’m always looking for the biggest challenge and the biggest names, the fights that are going to take me to the top, and he’s not one of those anymore.”

To Freire’s point, Guillard has only won three fights out of his last 10 and prognosticators did not give the former UFC standout much chance against Campos.

It remains to be seen on April 16 if Campos stands a chance against “Pitbull” in their rematch, as the Brazilian finished Campos the last time they met at 0:52 of the second round.
