That escalated quickly.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was shipped off to county jail on Tuesday (March 29, 2016) after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest. “Bones” turned himself into authorities in the wake of his recent traffic stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which resulted in a violation of his current probation.

Jones was pulled over by police last week and ticketed for drag racing (among other things). That was enough to get the embattled mixed martial arts (MMA) star detained, according to a report from TMZ, less than a week from his scheduled court appearance.
It probably didn’t help that Jones — already making headlines for his battle with Johnny Law — lost his cool and started arguing with the officer, labeling him a despicable pig (see the body cam video here). Jones later apologized for the outburst, but it appears to be too little, too late.
“Bones” is expected to headline the upcoming UFC 197 pay-per-view (PPV) event on April 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada, against longtime rival and current 205-pound titleholder Daniel Cormier (details). The status of that bout is not yet known and the promotion has yet to make an official statement.
