Adrien Broner is the kind of loud, brash personality that usually divides fans. However, in Broner’s case, there’s typically very little support for him, with most fans turning against his antics. His latest, an assault charge stemming from an attack outside of a bowling alley, is not going to help him with fans at all. He’s currently wanted on that charge, but will be allowed to fight Friday night anyway. Broner is not quite as good as his “best in the world” attitude would have you believe, but he’s a talented boxer who is ranked #5 in the 140 pound division by Ring Magazine. Broner is 4-1 since his loss to Marcos Maidana in 2013. Opponent Theophane is a Floyd Mayweather protege. The UK fighter has some decent wins under his belt, but since 2011 has only beaten one opponent who was on a 2 or more fight winning streak. In short, he’s in over his head here.
Opening the broadcast is Robert Easter Jr. vs. Algeniz Mendez. Easter is an undefeated prospect picking up momentum, while Mendez is a former champion and the toughest fight of Easter’s young career. Should be a good test for him and an interesting fight.
